Valentine's Day Chips

Julian brought this potato to show Ms. O'Neill and the class; it grew in the shape of a valentine! They're thinking of making a record called, Valentine's Day Chips (and bringing it out as a single!!!)

Ms. Creaton's boys had been looking at pictures of the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel and got to thinking . . . .
"Can't be that hard, really, to paint upside down, can it?"
So Ms. Creaton thought, "Let's give it a go . . ."

First class were in charge of the foyer art display this month and did a wonderful job displaying their Van Gogh Starry Night impressions.

Sparks were flying in Ms. O'Donovan's class this Valentine's day as the boys carried out electrical experiments.

Engineers of the Future

Boys from Ms Smith's class showing their building expertise with their model bridges made from just newspaper. The boys made bridges which held a 2kg weight.
The boys in Mr Kerin's 5th class built rain gauges and anemometers using recyclable materials. The boys are keeping track of the weather as part of their discovery science award project. Luckily there has been plenty of wind and rain to measure!!!

3D Machines

Ms. Purcell's boys are into their 3rd week working with Laura Thornton from the Art Department in Maynooth University. On Friday the boys began to put papier mâché on their 3D structures. We're all looking forward to seeing the completed machines in a couple of weeks.

Mr. Gough's Boys are looking after the foyer art display this month and created some very fetching Valentine owls.

. . . speaking of Valentine's Day, Ms. Carroll's boys have been growing some Valentine's day salad: lettuce alone !!!

Minor Schools Swimming Championship 2014

Good luck to Sean, Conor, Ethan and Ronan who will be competing this weekend in the Irish minor swimming championships at the national aquatic centre. Our school is very proud to have a team competing at these championships. We wish you all the best of luck.

The boys from fifth class made glove puppets and treated our junior infants to some puppet fun on Thursday last.

Spicy Spuds

Ms. Purcell's boys had great fun making 'Super Spuds'. The boys came across the recipe when they were examining different samples of procedural writing in their English lesson. If you would like to try out these delicious treats follow the steps below.
1. Preheat the oven to 180 c
2. Wash and quarter potatoes (do not peel).
3. Place half cup of breadcrumbs in one bowl and 100ml olive oil in another bowl.
4. Smear the baking tray with a little olive oil.
5. Dip the potato wedges in the olive oil and then roll in the bread crumbs.
6. Place the potato wedges on the baking tray and put in the oven for 40 mins. or until they are golden brown.

Bishop Walsh Pays a Visit

Sixth class boys gathered in the GP room this morning to meet Bishop Eamon Walsh. The bishop spoke to the boys about his own experiences growing up in Celbridge and later as minister in the Church in Dublin.

Charlie in Ms. Beatty's fourth class made this super castle using a plant pot, paper and paint. What a job! Well done Charlie.

A Guide to My Home Town

It's pen pal time again for Ms. O'Neill's boys. Their latest letters include a A Guide to My Home Town encouraging our Kerry pals to visit Dublin in 2014. Full colour brochures suggest the most exciting attractions and restaurants of the capital city including Comans of Rathgar. (I wonder is that because Billy's aunt works there?)

Hoopathon

Big thank you from the Parents' Association to Ms Goddard and all who took part in the fun hoopathon event. A whopping 1,583 euro was raised.

Our fourth Pius Wicklow Way Walk is scheduled for Sunday 11th May and is a wonderful opportunity to meet other parents and members of the school staff. So why not get into training and enjoy a great day out? The fundraising walk takes place in one of the most scenic areas of County Wicklow and is an adults only event. If the weather on the 11th does not cooperate, the 'fall back' date is Sunday 22nd June.

What's in a Name?

Confirmation will take place on the 8th March in the parish church. Mr. Réamonn's boys have been putting much thought into their choices of Confirmation names. Bishop Eamon walsh will visit the Confirmation classes this Thursday, 30th January to guide them in their Confirmation preparation.
