Intel Foundation Awards Major Prize to St. Pius

Past pupil Niall Moore dropped in earlier in the year and let us know that Intel was planning to award ten bursaries for innovative educational projects.
"In Dublin," we asked, "or is it a wider competition; all Ireland, perhaps?"
"No . . . it's a worldwide initiative," was Niall's response, "but if you're not in, you can't win."
Needless to remark we didn't think we had a chance but if it's one thing we don't lack, it's optimism. Sinéad Lally, our science guru, set about putting a comprehensive proposal together, aided and abetted by the aforementioned Niall Moore.
After many weeks of deliberation, the judges announced their decision. Bursaries would be awarded to . . .

Ms. O'Neill and Mr. Gough took their classes to Bushy Park on Wednesday to celebrate ESB National Tree Week. There they met Tom, the park ranger, who walked them through the park showing the boys all sorts of trees and wildlife. Ash, beech, aspen and redwood were all on the trail. Yew just couldn't have had more fun......the trail turned out to be very poplar. It wooden have been possible without Tom, so a special thanks from all the boys who were stumped by all the info!!!

Under the guidance of Mr Coyle and Mr Smyth, the boys, all members of the St Pius X running club, competed against schools from the area and finished very strongly, finishing 1st, 2nd and 3rd in one race. Well done to all 45 who finished their races.
