Leaf Animals

Ms. Gallagher's and Ms. Kennedy's first class boys took advantage of the sunshine and went on their first nature walk of the year to Bushy Park, topped off with a trip to the playground. They collected an array of colorful leaves which they then used to make 'Autumn Leaf Animals'.

Senior Football Semi-Final

Congratulations to our school's Senior Navy team on reaching the semi-final of the Corn na nGearaltach! St. Pius X BNS put in an impressive display defeating Sacred Heart, Ballygall in their quarter final in Bushy. This team has been one of the strongest our school has produced in recent years, with an unbeaten record heading into the penultimate game of the Cup against Scoil Assaim. Details on the fixture will be posted when we have them so stay tuned. Well done to all the boys on the panel for their tireless efforts in training and competitive fixtures. Thanks too to the management team of Ms. O'Connor, Mr. Coughlan and Mr. Murtagh. From training in Terenure College on Tuesday to an early morning session at 8 am on the day of the quarter final, the commitment of both teachers and players is to be admired. A win next Thursday would mean a final in Croke Park! So COYBIN!!! (Come on you boys in Navy!!)

Junior Football

Together with our Senior Panels St Pius X BNS is fielding THREE junior teams. Pictured is our Junior Green team who beat Colomcille's SNS Knocklyon in their first fixture. Thanks to the efforts of a large group of teachers, over 60 boys are playing Junior Football this year; this is in addition to the over 40 already involved at Senior level.

Blue Friday

All the classes have been busy at work preparing for the big match at the weekend. Special mention must go to Ms Gallagher's class for their mighty window display.

Sam Maguire Cup . . . Cup Cakes

. . . and how about this special cake which Conor made with his sisters? It has the city of Dublin crest on top. Yum.
"You can eat it now, Conor, we have the photo!"

Come on the Dubs

You may recognise a certain Mayo player, Cillian O'Connor, who is spending some time with us in St. Pius. Conor and Billy were given special permission today to wear their Mayo jerseys so that they might have their photo taken with Mr. O'Connor.
Mr. O'Connor joined the Pius football players at training on Wednesday in Bushy Park. He demonstrated the drills and modified games that he does in training that have made him such a success at club and county level.
Wear something blue tomorrow - no need to buy a Dublin jersey - wear a blue scarf or shirt, hat or trousers . . . Come on the Dubs

Football Season Opens

Congratulations to both Senior teams who won their opening matches in the Cumann na mBunscol leagues. We are extremely fortunate to have both the skilled players and enthusiastic teachers to field two Senior teams this year. The Senior Green were victorious over Knocklyon in Bushy Park, expertly managed by Ms Ni Loinsigh and Mr Glynn. Meanwhile in Sancta Maria, our Senior Navy team (pictured) beat Ballyroan BNS in a hotly contested game, guided by Ms O'Connor, Mr Coughlan and Mr Murtagh.
Huge thanks to these teachers for their time and effort in providing over 40 boys with the opportunity to play for their school. Standby for more exciting fixtures when our Junior season kicks off on the 20th.

Gift from Parents' Association

Shannon, Carol and Stephen of the PA presented the school Principal Dermot Lynch with a cheque in the sum of 15,000 euro. WOW!!!
On behalf of the boys, a huge and sincere thank you. We know this is not easy money and is the product of much planning, organising and cajoling. Many thanks to all of our parents who give their time so willingly at quizzes and sales, Thursday and Saturday classes and much more besides.

Choir Continues on Monday

Our choir rehearsals are underway on Mondays: 2:30pm to 3:30pm. All children from 3rd to 6th classes are welcome to take part. Our school choir performs at a number of functions throughout the year and St. Pius has a long tradition of choral performing.
New members are still welcome.

Croke Park Reps

Pictured are Rónan and Michael with GAA President Aogán Ó Fearghail and Mr. Gough. Both boys participated in the half-time Cumann na mBunscol INTO Respect Exhibition Go Games 2015 at the Dublin v Mayo - GAA Football All-Ireland Senior Championship Semi-Final Replay in Croke Park. The boys played on the Dublin team and were presented with their jerseys (which they got to keep) before the match. They arrived at the stadium at 2.30 where they were met by Mr. Smyth who helps co-ordinate the games. After having lunch in the stadium the pair were brought to their seats to watch the thrilling replay before taking to the hallowed turf themselves. "It's a day we will always remember", said the boys. St. Pius are very proud of the boys and the skills they showed on the day!

Thanks to our very own Mr. Michael Smyth and Mr. David Gough for making this possible.
