Parents and teachers had a ball at the ball!! Well done and thanks to Carol Edwards and her team for a superb organisational feat.

Defence Personnel Deliver Flag and Proclamation

Air Force representatives Micheál and Mark from Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel visited St. Pius this morning 5th November. The senior boys formed a guard of honour to welcome the soldiers who were escorted to the assemblies by Principal Dermot Lynch and DP Liam Gaynor. First was a photo call with youngest and oldest students Conor and Shane. After the reading of the proclamation, the boys sang Amhrán na bhFiann, led by Matteo, Jim and Lorca. Helping Mark to read the proclamation were Fionn and John Patrick.
After that it was over to the GP room where the senior boys learned how to fold the flag and how it should be looked after and respected. Five boys took possession of the flag: Martin, Charlie, Daniel, Conor and Dan.
Then came the good news: Mr. Lynch was so delighted with the event that he has given each and every boy in the school the night off homework. Thanks Mr. Lynch!! And not forgetting special thanks to sixth class teacher Brian Dillon who choreographed the event and third class teacher Triona O'Neill and her class for terrific art display for the occasion.

Aussie Rules

St Pius X was well represented last Saturday night at the Aussie Rules match in Croke Park: Mr Gough was an umpire in the senior match, Michael Murphy and Oisin Horan were umpires in the half time match. A team of south side boys managed by Mr Murtagh and Mr Glynn defeated a strong opposition with Rhys Morgan, Michael McShane and Conor Horan giving big performances.

Google Experience

Mr. Dillon's 6th class boys were in Google HQ yesterday. They were given an information briefing on Google, a tour of the offices and took part in their very own video conference. The boys loved it! It was an amazing experience and very memorable for all. They also took a stroll through the grounds of Trinity College.

W. B. Yeats

The boys from Mr. Gough's 6th class visited the W.B.Yeat's Exhibition in the National Library of Ireland, on Kildare Street today. They had been learning about the life of the Nobel prize winning poet and had spent some time examining his poetry since early September. The library's Education Officer was thrilled with the boys' depth of knowledge about Yeats and was delighted to hear their recitations of The Wild Swans at Coole and An Irish Airman Forsees His Death. Having visited the exhibition the boys took part in a Book Template Workshop. They visited Trinity College and St. Stephen's Green (for lunch) before returning to school. The boys wish to thank Mr. Kealy and Marie for accompanying them.

Congratulations to the Junior Navy team on beating Ballyroan in their last league fixture. In the nail-biting finish, the Pius men battled hard to snatch victory from an impressive opposition! This win means a third cup and medals for Pius in football this year, with Senior Navy and Senior Green wins already in the bag.
