Engineers' Week

2nd and 3rd classes took part in the Build a Bridge workshop from Intel as part of Engineers' Week. Niall and Danielle from Intel provided the boys with the resources and they got stuck in: problem solving and collaborative work were the key skills worked on today.

Quiz Team Reaches All Ireland

Our junior quiz team (Rory, Benji, James and Henry) took on the other Credit Union winners in Chapter 22 of South Dublin on Saturday afternoon. As you might imagine, the questions were especially difficult for this advanced stage of the competition but our boys were up to the task. They will compete in the final in April in the RDS taking on the winners of all the other Credit Union chapters in this 32 county event.
Our thanks to St. Agnes' Credit Union, Crumlin for hosting the event on Saturday and their very generous prizes and to Rathfarnham CU who hosted the preliminaries and awarded the winning team with further prizes for coming up trumps!!

PS . . . Next round of Friday Quizzlers begins this Friday 4th March. Remember that prizes will be awarded to each class.

Lovely cent scent of Pizza!!!

The Parents' Association treated the boys in Ms. O'Connor's class to pizzas last Friday. They filled 7 huge containers with one, two and five cent coins. Well done . . . and thanks to parents throughout the school who sent in loose change by the bucketload. The money will be wisely spent by our PA. We don't envy them the job of having to count it!!

Recent Events

St. Pius X BNS Running Club continues to grow with over 80 boys attending every week. This week's challenge was to scale the hill in Bushy as many times as possible in 15 minutes. Amazingly some boys ran up over 9 times! The participants now have new, hi-visibility singlets. The club is open to all in 5th and 6th class with the emphasis on enjoyment and personal goal setting.

Pictured here is Conor with the black belt for karate with which he was recently awarded. Well done Conor.

Mr. Postman - Take our Letters, Please

© St. Pius X BNS

After a big feed of pancakes, Ms. Corcoran's boys set out with their letters (written of course in their very best handwriting) to their pals in the country. We're just wondering are they Valentine's Day letters????

Runners

Our 5th class (Mr. Smyth) and 6th class (Mr. Dillon) boys took part in the South County Dublin Cross Country running event on Wednesday in Tallaght. There were some great performances for the boys. We even had a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finish in one race with Jude, Eli and Rory. Rhys also stormed home to win his race. Patrick and Luke in 6th class finished 2nd and 3rd. Everybody really enjoyed the day.

The nine class reps were elected, one from each class between third and sixth. The boys were assigned their first task on Friday at the inaugural meeting of the council and the boys are very excited to be part of this new inititative, especially the sixth class boys with it being the last few months of their time in St. Pius.

Chinese New Year

Philip in Mr Smyth's class had a surprise for all the boys today when he brought in Fortune cookies to celebrate the Chinese New Years. Judging by the predictions, the year of the monkey will be a good year for St Pius X.

Good Start in the Hurling

© St. Pius X BNS

A selection of our senior team retained the South Dublin Primary Schools Hurling Tournament title for the third consecutive year with a great win over near neighbours St. Joseph's yesterday. The blitz involved four teams and was played over two Thursdays. Trailing by a point at half time in the final, our boys showed great skill and heart to win and bring the trophy back to St. Pius X for another year.

Cakes & Commerce

Great excitement yesterday in Ms. Coyle's yesterday as they baked cakes (ably assisted by the boys in Mr. Murtagh's fifth class) and sold them in a jumbo cake sale.
