The Pius X BNS Tennis Team which competed in the Leinster Tennis Quarter Final in Clontarf against Belgrove BNS last Friday. The boys fought hard but were unfortunate to lose out on the day. They had finished top of their group but came up against strong opposition in wet conditions. Well done to Matthew, Killian, Sam, Rory, Sam and Oisín who played on the day. Special mention from Mr. Gough to Seán Q and Luke M for their help in getting the team so far!

Badminton Champ Scott Evans

Scott Evans visited the third - sixth class boys and told them all about his experiences in The Olympic Games and his diet and prearation for big tournaments. He even trains on Christmas Day. In the photos are Dylan whose Dad John set up the visit, class teacher Emmet Réamonn and acting Principal Liam Gaynor.
Badminton is a terrific non contact sport - if you'd like to get involved contact John or Whitehall Road badminton centre.

Rugby

Mr. Murtagh's class taking part in our new rugby programme. In St. Pius X BNS we endeavour to give pupils as wide a range of sporting experiences as we can. To that end, our 5th and 6th class pupils have begun taking part in rugby training sessions. Facilitated by Aoife Thompson (Leinster Branch), this 7 week programme allow participants to engage in fun, non-contact games, while developing their knowledge and skills of the game’s fundamentals. As many of our pupils will go on to attend secondary schools where rugby features prominently, this is also an excellent opportunity for boys to get to grips with a sport they may not have played before. Many thanks to Leinster Branch for the provision of this coach and also to one of our parents, Dermott Aspell for his help in organising it.

Minister Helen McEntee Visits

To mark the end of Gratitude Week, the Minister of State for Mental Health, Ms. Helen McEntee visited St. Pius on Thursday 4th May. She witnessed at first hand the boys taking part in relaxation exercises, junior yoga and positive thinking activities. The school choir performed beautifully as usual. The Student Council was on hand to meet and greet. Perhaps the highlight of the visit was the reading of a personal letter composed by Lucas and Sam (sixth class) and the presentation of a framed copy of it. Thanks To Ms. Triona O'Neill for spearheading the initiative.
