Mr. Lynch Set to Retire

© St. Pius X BNS

Mr. Lynch will enjoy his last day at the helm in St. Pius next Friday, 29th September. Dermot has taught in St. Pius since 1977 and took on the role of Principal in 2002. During that time he has witnessed and been intrumental in effecting many changes in education not least the huge leap in the deployment of technology in the classroom. His legacy will live here for a long time after he has left us.
We wish Dermot the very best in his retirement - may he have many happy and fulfilling days ahead.

Senior Greens Win Again

Our second Senior team, the Senior Greens, recorded their second win of the league against St Mary's Rathfarnham. The team which is managed by Ms Brennan and Ms Brogan continues to go from strength to strength. Well done too to the parents and teachers for the support and effort they have put into the team and for getting them to where they are now.

Pius Double

Congratulations to both Junior Green and Navy teams who beat both their respective St Joesph's, Terenure sides in Bushy yesterday. Well done to the forty players on both teams and to their coaches, Ms Shanley, Ms O'Connor , Mr Kealy, Mr Glynn and Mr Coyle. The Junior 'Go Games' are a great proving ground for Senior fixtures next year. Our Junior Whites are hoped to also be in action next week too. Pictured too is a very happy Mr Lynch with the wins over our local rivals at what will have been his last Junior fixture as Principal.

Back Training Already

The school was only into its third day and football training had begun! Indeed, all this week training and matches are taking place in preparation for the Cumann na mBunscol season that will begin next week. Ten teachers are giving of their free time to coach, train and manage the five competitive teams that we will field this year. St. Pius X BNS is one of the few schools in the country that field this many teams. It is a testament to the commitment of all members of our school community who support Gaelic football. Huge thanks to all who are involved and best of luck to our players in their competitions. Juniors (U11s) play matches on Tuesdays and Seniors (U13s) play their fixtures on Thursdays. All players train in Bushy Park on Wednesdays after school.

Any Galway Fans Out There . . ?

Eóin in Mr. Murtagh's class got his hands on the Liam McCarthy in Croke Park on Sunday and met three of the Galway giants: Joe Canning, Conor Cooney & Captain David Burke. Rumour has it that Eoin's Mum may have been wearing the maroon colours!!

Senior Teams Begin with a Double Win

Huge congrats to our two Senior teams who won both of their debut matches in the Cumann na mBunscol leagues. Ms. Brennan and Ms. Brogan's Senior Greens had a decisive win against Columcille's in Cherrywood yesterday. Meanwhile Ms. Redmond, Mr. Murtagh and Mr. Kelly's Senior White team had a tough win against the same Knocklyon school in Bushy Park. A gruelling performance in blistering sunshine and torrential rain meant a step closer to Croke Park for our players. Junior matches resume on Tuesday, with training for all on Wednesday and senior teams out again on Thursday.

Croke Park Referee

Eoghan refereed the match played at half time in Croke Park yesterday (and met lots of prestigious people as you can see) - what an honour. Well done Eoghan.
