I made a webpage on tennis because of the amount of time I dedicate to playing the sport. I play in a small but great tennis club... RATHGAR TENNIS CLUB. This year (2013) I will have been in R.T.C. for three years. In the time that I've played in Rathgar, I've made tonnes of great friends.Tennis is a great sport because no matter if you're 5 or 75 you can play it and enjoy it.When it comes to tennis I always have had and always will have one idol, Roger Federer! He is pefectly built for tennis. He is fast, powerful and in my own view the greatest tennis player there has ever been.

In tennis, the players try to hit the ball over the net in such a way that their oppenent cannot return it.

I. The player should try to hit the tennis ball away from the other player/players. For example if your opponent is on the right hand side of the court, try and hit the ball to left hand side of the court.

II.When hitting a groundstroke, start with the racket low and 'brush up' on the ball so that the racket finishes over your shoulder. This will give the ball topspin, which will make the shot harder for your opponent to return.

III. If you come to the net during a point, you will have to hit a volley, which is when you hit the ball before it bounces on your side of the court. When you hit a volley try to hit it low and hard.

IV. If you are up at the net hitting volleys, sometimes your opponent will try to play a shot called a lob, this is where they will hit the ball high over your head and into the pocket of space behind you. If you run fast enough you should be able to reach the lob in time to smash it at your opponent. Hopefully you'll win the point!

I. In tennis the scoring goes 0 (love),15,30,40, game. If each player gets to 40, this is called deuce and then you will need to win 2 points in a row to win the game.

II. If you win 6 games and your opponent wins less than 5 (example: 6-3) you win the set. If the score gets to 5-5 in a set you can still win the set 7-5. But if the score gets to 6-6, you play a type of game called a tiebreak (see point VI below). Generally, a tennis match is played over three sets.

III. THE TIEBREAK: In a tiebreak the first person to reach 7 points with a minimum of a 2 point margin (example: 7-5) wins both the tiebreak and the set. Then again, if the tiebreak gets to 6-6 the winner is the first person to reach 8 points and so on.
