Introduction

Hello. My name is Shane and I am 11. This website (as you might of guessed) is all about World War II. I hope you enjoy.

The sides

The sides in World War Two were: USA, France, Britain and Russia against Japan, Italy and Germany.

Tanks

Tanks were very common in World War II but rare in World War I. Here are some pictures of tanks.

The one on the left is a Tog II. It is the second longest tank in the world. The longest tank in the world is the Maus, and they only built prototypes of that!

The next one is called the Centurion Mk.7/1. It was the primary British main battle tank of World War II.

The next one is called the Sexton. It was built for Britain by Canada in World War II. They built 2,150 Sextons for the British and Canadian armies.

But probably the best of them all is the Maus. It was a truly huge German tank weighing a huge 188 tonnes. The main problem for the Maus was finding an engine powerful enough to make it move. Sadly, there were only two ever made and one isn't even finished!

The leaders

The main leaders of the Axis were Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini(on right) and Hideki Tojo(on left).

Quiz

(You can skip this if you want but it took me ages to make.)

What side were the British on?

What were the first two Western countries that Germany invaded?

how many bombers were shot down in World War II?

what percentage of Russian soldiers didn't make it through World War II?

Got all four? You cheated then!
Got three right? Probably didn't cheat then.
Got two? Better luck next time!
Got one? Maybe you should have skipped this.
Got zero? Don't do quizzes ever again.

Weird Facts

Here are some weird facts about World War II

Winston Churchill actually peed in the river Rhine! ( he made a big deal out of it )

A number of pilots actually died of farts! If you reach 20 000 feet and fart it's 300% more toxic!

The US army had more ships than the US navy!

Russians destroyed German aircraft by ramming them in mid-air! They also cleared minefields by marching on them!

84 German Generals were executed by Hitler.

The first "Germans" that were captured at Normandy were Koreans. They had been forced to fight for the Japanese army until they were captured by the Russians and forced to fight for the Russian army until they were captured by the Germans and made to fight for the German army but then they were captured by the Americans.

One of Japans methods for destroying tanks was to bury an artillery shell with the nose exposed. When an enemy tank came near enough a soldier would hit the shell with a hammer and it would explode, destroying the tank!

Hitlers private train was called "Amerika" ( It was later changed ) .

The shoulder patch on the US Army's 45th Infantry division was the swastika. ( It was later changed like Hitlers train ).

The youngest US soldier was 12 year old Calvin Graham. He was wounded in combat and given a Dishonourable Discharge for lying about his age.

At home

You would think that at home everyone would be happy but by looking at the pictures you would say otherwise.

Random fact

One American marine missed his town so much he set up a barber shop at the camp he was based in!

Unlike world war I people weren't safe in their own homes. There was bombing and everyone feared the Germans would launch a gas attack so they prepared. They built gas detectors on lamp posts that had gas-sensative paint and would turn red in the instance of a gas attack.

There was also gas masks. They were actually smelly, sweaty cardboard boxes that fell apart after a couple of days.

After all this preperation Hitler saw that it would be stupid to bomb Britain and never did.
