This year Mr. Réamonn has been taking the Mathletes Club to the classroom as part of a pilot scheme introduced for 4th classes. Instead of a small number of boys leaving their classroom to participate in this enrichment programme, the programme has moved to the classroom to provide inclusive enhanced learning experiences to all children in the class.
The programme offers learning opportunities that are above and beyond the normal range of the primary school maths syllabus and features number theory, mathematical investigations, problem solving, activities promoting logical reasoning and lateral thinking, number puzzles such as Sudoku, and many other maths challenges. This ‘lead and support’ approach to team teaching has proven very successful so far and many boys have been saying that it is one of the highlights of their week.
