Our Senior White footballers capped off a successful season with some silverware on Monday after defeating St. Brigid’s Castleknock in Russell Park Castleknock. After a number of postponements due to weather, the boys were rearing to go and took to the field in tough conditions Monday @ 3.00. In a very tightly contested match, the teams went score for score in the first half, with St. Pius X bolstered by a strong wind and rain at their backs. With the elements against us in the second half, the boys dug deep to hold on to a slim lead before Leon caught the ball at the 21m line and buried it in the top corner. After that it was all about hanging on and repelling the attacks of a very skilful Brigid’s team. Man of the Match performances by our Captain Jamie and his defensive partner Adam swept up all the loose footballs that rained down on the backline, backed up by Cohen who was outstanding in goal. Driving runs from our half backs Finn and Adam and midfielders Oisín and Ray kept the pressure on the opposition. We were rewarded in the dying seconds when our prolific full forward Pearse grabbed a goal which secured the victory. With a panel of 18, the boys have trained hard since the start of September, improving with every game and training. Well done to the team and their managers Mr. Deery, Ms. Herity and Mr. Smyth
