Fiach, Eoghan, Cillian and Tadgh in 6th class competed in the Leinster Badminton Doubles Tournament last Thursday out in Baldoyle. The boys began by playing 3 matches in the first group stage, which they topped and came first in the leaderboard.
This result brought the team into round two which had three extremely competitive matches. The St. Pius X BNS team won the second round on points in this group by having extremely impressive teamwork between the two doubles teams.
After a long-awaited semifinal, the boys played against Windgap NS, Co. Kilkenny, in which both doubles teams drew on wins but St. Pius XBNS took the lead on points pushing the four boys towards the final.
The final was against reigning champions Mayo NS, Laois. A repeat of the semi final occurred in which both teams drew on wins however, Mayo NS took the win in the last minute on points.
The four boys all put in excellent performances throughout the day and were very sportsmanlike in their defeat. A big thank you to Oliver Jennings and Ms. O’Dell for their help on the day. The boys will compete in the All-Ireland Badminton Schools finals on Wednesday the 28th of February. Well done and good luck to Fiach, Eoghan, Cillian and Tadgh!
