The boys in Ms. Stewart’s class have been working very hard this week with their math’s and English. The boys were working in small groups doing stations learning loads of new things.

Today we headed to Leicester Celtic’s home ground to play a challenge match to start our soccer season. The boys did very well against tough opposition from Saint Olafs Dundrum. Final score 5-1. On Friday, the boys in Ms. Herity’s First Class visited Ms. O’Kelly’s Junior Infants to read them stories…some of which the First Class boys had written themselves! The boys really enjoyed themselves and hope to visit again.

Before Christmas, 5th class took part in the Dublin Lions Club Peace Poster competition. The theme was ‘Lead with Compassion’ and entrants had to submit a poster that tried to represent that theme. Our school’s overall winner was Tom Meade who was put forward for the All Ireland competition. Our runners up were Luke McGrath, James Barnes and Donnacha Cronin.

Ms. O’Kelly’s boys have gone wild. They have been learning about wild animals in Aistear and making didgeridoos for art. Axel brought in a real didgeridoo and played it for the class.

The boys in Ms. Mooneys also got the opportunity to make St. Brigid’s crosses on Wednesday thanks to a generous parent who supplied the rushes. The were lovely strong green rushes which suggest they could be from somewhere like Roscommon or Leitrim. The boys also got help from Mr. Geraghty’s 6th class who were on hand to get them aCROSS

As well as helping the junior classes, the boys in 6th class had a very busy two days making St. Brigid’s crosses. Using good Galway reeds, the boys made their own crosses and brought them to Terenure College to get blessed. Thanks to Fr Eanna for blessing the crosses and welcoming us to mass. Could you crack this puzzle? World Braille Day, on January 4th, is celebrated to honour the birth of Braille’s inventor, Louis Braille. For January’s mind-bending monthly challenge, Mr. Réamonn tasked the boys with a Wordsmiths challenge called ‘Baffling Braille’. The boys were challenged with cracking a secret message using the braille alphabet. Three winners were selected from the boys who figured it out!

Last Friday evening saw the return of the Credit Union Interschool Quiz for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic put a hold on proceedings.
