Over the course of eight weeks, our 5th and 6th class boys took on an inspiring challenge: completing a full marathon by running laps of the school each day. Mr. Finnegan’s boys have been hard at work designing and assembling their very own solar panels as part of a hands-on renewable energy project. Through teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving, the students explored how sunlight can be converted into electricity and learned the importance of sustainable technology which is being used on our own school roof.

During Science Week, our boys enthusiastically took part in a wide range of hands-on STEM activities designed to spark curiosity and creativity. From the marshmallow construction challenge and LEGO Education tasks to experimenting with circuits and tackling exciting STEM team-building challenges, students were fully immersed in discovery and problem-solving. Faughs has begun to use St Pius X for some of its under age winter training at night (under lights!). Our new astro that was installed last year has made a real change to yard times and now our parish club.

During Maths this week, the boys in Ms Carroll’s 3rd class have been exploring tessellation of 2D shapes. Take a look at some of the wonderful tessellating patterns they created while working in groups!

This week, 5th class had a visit from Garda Brendan. He showed them how important science is during Garda investigations. The boys got the opportunity to dress up as Gardaí, and complete a mock investigation. Using fingerprint testing, they were able to identify the culprit, and solve the crime!

As part of World War 1 research, 6th class students took a hands-on approach to understanding life on the front lines. The boys worked together to build replica trenches, learning about the harsh conditions soldiers faced during the war. They also wrote letters home from the perspective of soldiers in the trenches, capturing the emotions, hopes, and challenges of life

Ms. Mcweeney’s senior infants have had a busy week in the St. Pius Cafe. They have been making aprons, taking orders, making food, writing recipes, creating menus and even made their own funny face cookies. Unfortunately, the cafe is closed on Saturdays as the boys don’t work weekends.
