Ms. Pleamonn’s boys have been investigating soil structure in geography and science. As an experiment they decided to make a wormery. Using layers of compost, shredded newspapers and some crushed chalk, the boys have created the perfect habitat for these important creatures who move between the different soil layers, making nutrients available to plants. Here are some of the boys in Ms Robinson’s Senior Infants during Aistear this week. Our theme for the month is the Sports Shop and Sports. The boys are working hard in the Sports Shop using their best sales tactics to sell lots of sports equipment. Some of the boys have also made a GAA pitch from blocks in construction.

Our scientists in Mr. Cunningham’s class have been working tirelessly behind the scenes, calculating the math, working out the propulsion system and getting the ratios right for the launch of their homemade rocket. The boys in Ms Pleamonn’s 3rd class were celebrating Chinese New Year last year. 2022 is the year of the tiger. The boys worked collaboratively to create dragons. A symbol of wisdom, power and good fortune in Chinese culture.

Boys across the school celebrated St. Brigid’s day yesterday by recounting the stories about her life as well as looking at some of the traditions she inspired. As always, there was plenty of rushes on hand, sourced from north Galway, to enable to boys to try to weave St. Brigid’s crosses. The boys in 5th class greatly enjoyed the endeavor

February 1st marked the beginning of the Chinese New Year…  2022 being ‘The Year of the Tiger’. This was the theme for Mr. Réamonn’s mind-bending monthly challenge for January. The boys were set a Wordsmiths challenge and tasked with identifying pairs of animals whose names were jumbled together. The winners selected from the 174 entries this month were Sam from Mr.

Our Aistear theme ‘African Market’ was so much fun. Through play, we learned so much about Africa. From animals, to food, to traditional ndebele art and jewellery. We set up a classroom African market where we role played buying and selling fruit, veg, jewellery and crafts. We even got to make smoothies using tropical fruit.
